Why does God allow suffering?
This is probably the most common question I have heard. First, let me emphatically say, No one knows Gods reasoning on all things, including this, and If anyone gives you a definitive answer, in my opinion, they don't understand. God is in control of everything that happens. He allows both good and bad things to happen. All for one purpose. His purpose and as His word says, for ultimate good. This does not mean, and it is not implied here that God arbitrarily cases suffering to occur. God is a God of Love. He is also a God of judgement. These things are very difficult for us to comprehend; That God would allow any suffering to occur for any reason. It is one of the mysteries that us limited, finite creatures find hard to comprehend when we are talking about an unlimited, infinite creator.
Be that as it may, I do have some opinions that make sense to me. Consider this. Who's sickness should he cure? which accident should he prevent? If you answer "All of them", and that God shouldn't allow anyone to get sick or hurt, then think about a world that is perfect with no sickness, no disease. Sounds good right? One problem. It would be a perfect world filled with imperfect beings. In the new life to come, things will be different. There will be no sickness, disease, or sorrow. Until then, know, that God is with you in all things. He will help you through these times of trials, If you ask Him.
"For He has not ignored the suffering of the needy. He has not turned and walked away.
He has listened to their cries for help". Psalms 22:24
In the beginning, when God created Adam and Eve, His intention WAS to have a perfect world. However, due to Mans decision, we have these trials to deal with. But in the everlasting life to come, that is what He promises; No sorrow or suffering.
".....And God will wipe every tear from their eyes" Rev. 7:17
Personally I believe, sometimes things happen due to human decisions in life. Although God is in control of everything, we do have free will that has results of both good and bad. If a person overdoses on drugs, God certainly didn't make them do that. Also, sometimes things just happen due to the environment or, unfortunately there are times things just go wrong with our imperfect bodies. We just need to keep FAITH, that He is with us, through all of this. There is hope. There truly is!
You may have heard "suffering could be occurring to test our faith"? Suffering means more than the suffering of sickness. We can be suffering because of decisions others make pertaining to their lives. For example, if your friend or maybe even a child is living a life that you absolutely do not agree with, this could cause you to suffer because you obviously care about them. Could God use that to strengthen us in our faith in order to bring good into the to the other persons life? Seems possible. Not all suffering with pain or sickness is absolutely meant to be a "test of faith" However when these things do occur, it is our FAITH in Jesus that will help you through these times.
"Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when
your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow". James 1:2-3
Jesus told his disciples, we would have to endure many trials in this world. But to have peace of mind by his sacrifice for us.
"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and
sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world". John 16:33
Lastly, consider this........when good things happen to you, such as, you are blessed with a child or grandchild, or maybe changes occur in life that gets you out of a bad environment, do you THANK God?....... No?.... then don't BLAME him when things go wrong. It amazes me how many people do not believe in God, do not believe the bible is the truth, but when 'things go wrong' in their lives, they blame God. As much as our particular situation is devastating to us, we need to count our blessings. Do you think there are others that may be in a lot worse condition? Trust that God is with us through all of this. He has a plan for each and every one of us. He is control of each and everyone of our lives. Pray, ask Jesus to help you through these things and BELIEVE that your life will change dramatically.
Take it from me. I had 'issues' in my life that I tried to change on my own. Finally, after getting the calling from God, then getting on my knees, asking forgiveness for my sins and asking Jesus to come into my life, to ask the Holy Spirit to teach me God's word.... Only after all of those things has my life changed in ways I can't possibly explain or make you believe. Having a bad day? Thank the Lord. I do when I am having one, forced to deal with a 'trial' in my life. I thank him simply because.... without him.... it would be worse! May God Bless you.
