MATHEW 6: 22,23

        In the book of Mathew Chapter 6, Verses 22,23 Jesus teaches us about 'The light of the body'. It reads ;

"The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body be full of light. But if thine eye  be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore  the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!" Mat. 6:22-23

        The concept here is that the eyes are the manner in which light enters the body. If the person has healthy spiritual sight, and his intentions are to please God, then his whole personality will be without fault. The 'single' in verse 22 refers to devotion to the only one God in heaven. The 'evil' eye refers to the misdirected vision and evil purposes of his life that causes deceptive vision, thus "How great is that darkness". Jesus' teachings here remind us that our true intensions and thoughts are to be kept in line with God's will, to praise and worship him and him alone. The revealing of a true Christian is in the light, not darkness. How we appear to others will be evident. Is it the true light that Jesus speaks about or is it darkness? More importantly, God knows our true intensions regardless of how we attempt to appear to others.
