Is this forgiving others stuff really necessary?
The short answer to this
is yes. Yes, because Jesus wants us to live a life like Him, with compassion and
understanding. Why? because by doing so leads to developing a compassionate and understanding
heart that strengthens you. It creates a much different personality within you that
you may not possess which leads you to having a much better life overall. Being able
to forgive others when they wrong us is not an easy task for us humans. However as
Jesus said;
“Take heed to yourselves: If your brother trespass against you, rebuke
him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against you seven times in
a day, and seven times in a day turn again to you, saying, I repent; you shall forgive
him". Luke 17:3-4
A forgiving heart, is such an awesome feeling, it is beyond
words. God knows this. Which is one of the reasons why he commands us to 'forgive
and forget' so we can have a peaceful co-existence with Him. Besides, If God can
forgive man's sins, sins that deserve
death, why is it we can't forgive others that
'get under our skin'?
"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which you
were also called in one body; and be thankful." Col. 3:15
Showing others, by example
when one does evil against us is a wonderful but difficult trait to develop. But
it is truly what we should strive for. The way to accomplish this is to realize,
that the person doing the wrong may be hurting in ways he or she can not understand.
If we can understand this, then the forgiveness comes easier.
"But I say unto you
which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse
you, and pray for them which despitefully use you." Luke 6: 27-29
