Chapter 2 (coninued):

            Daniel then went to the Arioch who the king had ordered to destroy all the wise men and he said to him;

"..........Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me unto the king and I will show the king the interpretation." Dan. 2:25

Daniel told the king that none of the wise men were able to interpret the dream but only God in heaven that "revealeth secrets".

        Daniel proceeded to tell the king his dream and its interpretation. It is in Daniel Chapter 2 verses 29-42. The dream told of things that "..shall come to pass" Daniel then told the king his dream and he spoke of "a great image, who's brightness stood before thee and was excellent but the form was terrible". The head of the image was of fine gold. The breasts and arms of silver, his belly and his thighs were of brass and his legs of iron and his feet of part iron and clay. This was the image in Nebuchadnezzar's dream.

            The significance of the materials in this vision are important as is the order in which they are placed. The order starting of the head of gold down to the feet of iron and clay represent the decreasing value or significance of various kingdoms which these sections represent. As Daniel explained in the interpretation of the kings dream, the head of gold is Nebuchadnezzar or his kingdom of Babylon. The silver arms represent following  kingdoms, possibly of Media and Persia. The belly and thighs of brass represent Greece, the legs of iron, the Roman Empire which is also in the feet mixed with clay, a very weak material.

            In the dream, Daniel spoke about a stone that was "cut out without hands". This is believed to be Jesus Christ. This stone struck the image and at the feet made of Iron and clay which caused the entire image to be destroyed. The latter part of chapter two talks about the ten toes made of Iron and clay and are representative of ten kingdoms of the Roman Empire which will be in existence when Christ returns. Jesus will destroy these kingdoms and the stone will be His Kingdom which will exist forever.

            When king Nebuchadnezzar heard these things; "he fell upon his face and worshipped Daniel." He then said;
"Of a truth it is that your God is a God of gods and Lord of kings and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldst reveal this secret." Dan. 2:47

Chapter 3:

            In this chapter, King Nebuchadnezzar creates a golden image that has dimensions of about 90 feet high and 9 feet wide. He ordered the princes, the governors, captains, judges, counselors and all the rulers of the province to come to the dedication of his image. Then he commanded;

"That at the time ye hear the sound of the coronet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had made up." Dan. 3:5

 He further ordered that anyone who did not bow down to the image and worship it, would be thrown into the "burning fiery furnace."  So it was, that when ever the people heard the music, they would bow down and worship the image.

            The Chaldeans  at the time told king Nebuchadnezzar that there were certain jews that the king had set over the affairs of Babylon, namely Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego would not worship the image that the king had set up. This made the king furious and ordered them to come to him. He told them, that if they bow down and worship the image when the music sounded it would do well for them, but if they did not, they would be thrown in the burning fiery furnace;

"Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to
                     answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace,
                     and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not
                     serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up."
Dan. 3:16-18

Because of this, the king ordered the furnace to be heated to seven times more than usual and also ordered the mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them in the furnace. Because the furnace was exceedingly hot, it killed the men that bound Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego when they threw them in the furnace. The three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were in the midst of the burning fiery furnace when the king rose in astonishment and said;

".....Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king." Dan. 3:24

He said this because he noticed that there were four men in the furnace. The fourth one looking like "the Son of God". He also noticed that they were not affected by the fire at all. He then ordered the men out of the furnace and saw that their clothes were not burned, not even the hair on their heads were singed. King Nebuchadnezzar then replied;

"Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants
                     that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor
                     worship any god, except their own God. Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language,
                    which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and
                    their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort."
Dan. 3:28-29

The fourth person in the furnace is believed to be Jesus even though He was not known to the people at this time.
